About Pomonok Neighborhood

In East Queens, not far from Kissena Park is the small neighborhood of Pomonok. The Queens College is its next door neighbor. Pomonok gets its name from the name Native Americans used for Long Island. The community mostly consists of housing and residents from the Electchester Cooperative Housing and the NYCHA's Pomonok Houses, which provides low-cost and affordable housing for many. There are moderately-priced condos for rent and sale outside of these two stated housing complexes. There is a strong union presence in the neighborhood as Local Union 3 has had a long-standing base in Pomonok and the Electchester Co-ops were originally created to provide homes to union members. Pomonok's diverse community is only accessible by car and a few buses, as no trains run anywhere close to this neighborhood. There plenty of shops, shopping centers, and strip malls in the area to provide for the needs of the residents.
