About Hollis Neighborhood

Hollis is a quiet, middle-class residential neighborhood is located in the southeastern portion of Queens right next to much larger Jamaica. Also known as a hotspot for rap and hip hop, many rap icons have evolved out of this community including, but not limited to, Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, Young MC and Ja Rule. Housing consists of many single-family homes. The population is mostly made up mostly of African-Americans with some Hispanics and Indians as well. The main commercial corridors in the neighborhood are Jamaica and Hillside Avenues. Hollis Playground is a popular family spot for many locals to gather.
