East Elmhurst Apartments for Rent
About East Elmhurst Neighborhood

East Elmhurst is a middle-class neighborhood in the northeast area of Queens, located east of Jackson Heights and north of Corona. It includes La Guardia airport and is on the shore of Flushing Bay. The neighborhood was among the first where African Americans could buy homes, and today it remains prominently black and boasts a significant black history—Malcolm X, Dizzie Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald all lived within its bounds. It has a consistent homey feel, with unfussy two-story houses populated by the same families who first moved in in the 60s and 70s. The community has a tight bond and many are active in neighborhood clubs and community groups. Neighbors relish their grassy backyards and views of a Manhattan skyline, and many say they don’t plan to leave any time soon.
