About Broad Channel Neighborhood

Neighborhood Map image

Broad Channel is probably one of the most unique areas of Queens, and possibly in all of New York. That is because this neighborhood consists of a group of islands in Jamaica Bay. Visitors and residents of Rockaway Park often drive through the main island of Broad Channel on Cross Bay Boulevard to get to the outer peninsula of Queens. The main narrow island, which is the only habitable island, is exclusively made up of single-family houses. Rentals exist but are rare. Home ownership is far more common and fairly affordable. The main artery is Cross Bay Boulevard, which is where you'll find most retail. Surprisingly, the A train does stop on Broad Channel, albeit it is a far commute to Manhattan. You won't find much recreation outside of a few restaurants, parks and yacht/boating clubs on the island. However, boating is a popular pastime on the island, and you'll find many residents keeping boats on their properties.
