Gravesend Apartments for Rent

About Gravesend Neighborhood

Neighborhood Map image

Gravesend is located in the south-central section of Brooklyn, just across the creek from Coney Island, sandwiched between Coney Island and Bensonhurst. Although it remains one of the lesser known neighborhoods of the borough, it was one of the oldest populated cities in the nation and it is one of the first towns founded by a woman, Lady Deborah Moody. The Lady Moody House is one of the oldest buildings in NYC and a popular attraction in the area, along with other interesting historic buildings and cemeteries. There is a large Sephardic Jewish and Italian population. Although Russians and Asians have been recently making their way in to the area, Italian-Americans remain the major demographic.
