About Coney Island Neighborhood

Neighborhood Map image

Coney Island is an ethnically diverse residential community, located in the southwestern portion of Brooklyn, that just happens to be the birthplace of the amusement park. It used to be an island until the city decided to fill a portion of Coney Island Creek making it a peninsula. Locals and tourists flock to the crowded beach and walk the boardwalk, which is filled with games, rides and tons of fried food. It is home to the original Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and hosts the annual hot dog eating contest every Fourth of July. The Mermaid Parade is very popular celebration, which is hosted the third Saturday in June, and features nautical costumes, over-the-top floats and a celebrity king and queen.
